• famous writer, philosopher and composer, representative of age of Enlightenment
• most famous works: Julie(1761), Émile(1762), Confessions(1770)
• Revolutionary ideas(quite literally):
  • humans are good, ruined by the civilisation of cities
  • monarchy is inequal, instead, in a state every citizen has a right to vote (probably not women anyway)
  • freedom of individuals
  • inserts himself for less strict parenting/education
